LINE Official Account pricing 2026: plans, message counts and a cost calculator

The LINE Official Account plans in Taiwan (new prices from 1 November 2026) and Japan, which messages count toward your quota, how to estimate a small shop's monthly use, and a calculator.

Updated · 5 min read

A LINE Official Account is free to open. What you pay depends on how many chargeable messages you send each month, and the plans differ by country. This guide covers the two markets where most small businesses on LINE are: Taiwan, where the paid plans change price on 1 November 2026, and Japan. Every figure comes from LINE's own pages, checked on 25 October 2026; prices are before tax.

Plans and prices change. If anything here differs from LINE's pages, LINE's pages are right: Taiwan announcement, Japan plan page.

Taiwan plans from 1 November 2026

Plan Monthly fee Free messages Extra messages
Light (輕用量) NT$0 200 No
Medium (中用量) NT$1,000 3,000 No
High (高用量) NT$1,400 6,000 Yes, in tiers

Fees are before tax and apply from 1 November 2026; until 31 October, Medium is NT$800 and High NT$1,200. Light and Medium can't buy extra messages, so you upgrade when you need more (Medium upgrades to High).

On the High plan, extra messages are priced by how many you buy in the month: the 1st to the 50,000th extra message cost NT$0.2 each, and from the 50,001st they cost NT$0.15 each. Only the messages past 50,000 get the lower price. The free allowances stay the same, the billing cycle does not change, and accounts that renew by credit card are charged the new price automatically from 1 November.

Japan plans

Plan Monthly fee Free messages Extra messages
Communication ¥0 200 No
Light ¥5,000 5,000 No
Standard ¥15,000 30,000 Yes, in tiers

Fees are before tax. Only the Standard plan can send extra messages. Since 1 October 2026 they cost ¥3 each for up to 200,000 a month and ¥2.5 each beyond that (LINE's notice).

New accounts start on the Communication plan, and only the Standard plan can send more than its allowance. LINE says it revised the extra-message prices on 1 October 2026; the per-volume tiers are on its plan page. Annual billing isn't offered.

Which messages count

The rules are the same idea in both countries: messages you push out count, replies and automatic answers don't.

Counted

  • Broadcasts and targeted (narrowcast) messages, including step messages in Japan
  • Messages sent through the Messaging API, e.g. the Push API (Japan lists the Push, Multicast, Broadcast and Narrowcast APIs; Taiwan notes that some reviewed API features are billed separately)

Not counted

  • One-to-one chats you type in the LINE Official Account chat
  • Auto-response messages
  • The greeting message new friends receive
  • Replies sent through the Messaging API's Reply API
  • In Taiwan, LINE also lists AI auto-response messages as free

How messages are counted

LINE counts number of sends × number of friends targeted. One broadcast to 500 friends is 500 messages; four a month is 2,000. One send can carry several speech bubbles (up to 3 from the manager screen; in Taiwan up to 5 through the Push API).

In Taiwan, message charges are counted in Japan time (GMT+9), so anything sent after 11 pm Taiwan time counts on the next day. A broadcast after 11 pm on the last day of the month lands in the next month.

Tools that send for you use the quota

If you connect a booking system, a customer-service tool or an AI assistant through the Messaging API, every message it sends with the Push API counts. Booking reminders and shipping notices are usually pushes too.

NEXUPIRA's Rex works the same way. Rex drafts a reply, you approve it, and it goes out as a push message, so each one counts toward your Official Account's monthly quota. Replies you type in the chat yourself, and auto-responses, don't. If Rex sends 30 replies a day, that is about 900 a month: more than the 200 included in LINE's free plan (Light in Taiwan, Communication in Japan), so you would need the Medium plan in Taiwan or the Light plan in Japan.

Estimating a small shop's monthly use

  1. Broadcasts: friends × broadcasts a month.
  2. Pushes: one-to-one messages a tool sends for you, reminders and notices.
  3. Add them up and pick the smallest plan that covers the total.

Some worked examples (calculations, not statistics):

Situation Messages Taiwan (from 1 Nov) Japan
300 friends, 2 broadcasts 600 Medium, NT$1,000 Light, ¥5,000
800 friends, 4 broadcasts, 400 pushes 3,600 High, NT$1,400 Light, ¥5,000
2,000 friends, 4 broadcasts 8,000 High, NT$1,800 Standard, ¥15,000

In the last example Taiwan's High plan includes 6,000 messages, so 2,000 extra × NT$0.2 = NT$400 is added to the NT$1,400 fee.

Try your own numbers:

Monthly cost estimate (Taiwan)

About 1,400 messages a month Broadcasts: 300 friends × 4 = 1,200, plus 200 push messages Suggested plan: Medium (中用量) NT$1,000 a month before tax

Based on LINE’s prices from 1 November 2026; until 31 October the Medium plan is NT$800 and High NT$1,200. Check LINE Official Account Manager and LINE’s notice for the final amount.

Monthly cost estimate (Japan)

About 1,400 messages a month Broadcasts: 300 friends × 4 = 1,200, plus 200 push messages Suggested plan: Light plan ¥5,000 a month before tax

Add-on messages use LINE’s prices from 1 October 2026: ¥3 each up to 200,000 a month, ¥2.5 each beyond that, before tax. Check LINE Official Account Manager and LINE’s plan page for the final amount.

Using fewer messages

  • Answer fixed questions with auto-responses. Opening hours, prices and how to book can be keyword auto-responses, which are free. The auto reply templates for 10 industries give you wording to start from; setting up LINE auto-replies walks through the screens.
  • Target broadcasts. Sending only to the customers a message is for uses far fewer messages than sending to everyone.
  • Reply by hand when it needs judgement. One-to-one chat is free; only what a tool pushes counts.
  • Mind the month end in Taiwan. A broadcast after 11 pm on the last day counts in the next month.

LINE's own AI agent

In October 2026 LINE announced that Official Accounts in Taiwan will get a built-in, no-code AI agent platform, targeted for the first quarter of 2027 (iThome report). Its price and how it is billed have not been announced; check LINE's notices when it launches. LINE's 2026 price notice for Taiwan already lists AI auto-response messages as free.

FAQ

Is a LINE Official Account free?

Yes. In Taiwan the Light plan and in Japan the Communication plan cost nothing and include 200 messages a month. Neither can buy extra messages, so you change plans when you need more.

Can I buy extra messages on the Medium plan in Taiwan?

No. LINE's notice says the Medium plan can't buy extra messages; to send more, you upgrade to High.

Do replies to customers count?

Replies you type in the one-to-one chat, auto-responses, greeting messages and Reply API replies don't count. Broadcasts, targeted messages and messages sent through the Messaging API (e.g. the Push API) do, including replies a tool pushes for you.

Are the prices before or after tax?

LINE publishes them before tax in both Taiwan and Japan.
