What to put on the quote
- Objectives, deliverables and what is explicitly out of scope.
- Fee model: fixed fee, day rate or retainer.
- Client inputs needed (data, access, people) and deadlines.
- Expenses, confidentiality and change request process.
Common mistakes
- A deliverable described as "support" with no end point.
- Not stating what you need from the client and by when.
- Unbilled extra meetings.
Deposit, balance and validity
Fixed-fee projects often bill 50% on signing and 50% on delivery; retainers bill monthly in advance. Quote valid for 30 days. Expenses billed at cost with prior approval.
