What to put on the quote
- Service call fee, the area it covers and the after-hours window.
- Brand, grade and finish of any new hardware, and whether the old keys still work.
- Entry method: non-destructive first, and the price of a replacement lock if drilling is needed.
- ID and proof of address, or the owner or manager confirming by phone.
- Number of keys handed over, and the workmanship warranty on installed hardware.
Common mistakes
- Quoting a low call-out fee and adding charges at the door, the fastest route to a bad review.
- Opening a door without checking ID and address.
- Drilling a lock before the customer has agreed the cost of the new one.
Deposit, balance and validity
The total is confirmed before any lock is opened or drilled. Emergency calls are paid on completion; planned jobs with ordered hardware take a 30% deposit on order, balance when installed. Photo ID and proof of address, or a call with the owner or manager, are checked before entry. Installed hardware carries a 1-year workmanship warranty. Quote valid for 30 days.
Questions people ask
Will you have to drill my lock?
Only if non-destructive entry fails, and only after you agree the price of a replacement lock.
Should I rekey or replace?
Rekeying keeps the hardware and changes which key works, which costs less when the locks are in good shape. Replace them when they are worn or you want a higher grade.
What do you need to see before opening the door?
Photo ID showing the address, a lease, or a call with the owner or property manager.
