Video Editing Quote Template

Editing someone else’s footage is priced on two things: how much raw material you have to watch and how polished each finished minute must be. YouTube channels, course creators and agencies with a backlog all hand over footage this way, so quote both, not just the final runtime.

What to put on the quote

  • Finished length, aspect ratios and how much raw footage the price covers (hours of footage, number of camera angles).
  • Who supplies what: footage, logo, fonts, music licence, a script or timestamps of the moments to keep.
  • Caption style and language, and whether captions are burned in or delivered as an SRT file.
  • Revision rounds included, where a revision ends and a re-edit begins, and the turnaround per round.
  • Handover: export settings for the final MP4, project file or not, and how long you keep the source files.

Common mistakes

  • Quoting per finished minute, then receiving four hours of unlabelled footage for a ten-minute video.
  • Scoring with tracks from your own music subscription and handing over a video that gets a copyright claim on the client’s channel.
  • Accepting “small changes” after sign-off that are really a new structure for the whole video.
  • A monthly package with no cap on videos per month, so the client keeps sending more.

Deposit, balance and validity

50% upfront for a one-off project or a first video, balance on delivery; a monthly series is invoiced per batch at month end. A revision not requested within 14 days of delivery closes the job. Quote valid for 30 days.

Questions people ask

Can you work with footage shot on a phone?

Yes, but mixed frame rates and vertical clips take longer to conform. Send a sample clip so the quote reflects it.

Do I get the project file?

Only if it is listed. The project file hands over your templates and presets, so it is usually a separate line.

What does one revision round mean?

One consolidated list of changes, sent together. Ten separate messages over a week are not one round.

Can you match the style of a channel I like?

Send two or three reference links with timestamps. Heavy motion graphics or animated captions are priced as an extra line.
