Tree Service Estimate Template
Tree work is priced by risk as much as by size: a 60 ft oak over a roof is a different job from the same tree in an open yard. Describe each tree, its height and what it hangs over, and say what happens to the wood, the brush and the stump, because that is where homeowners compare bids.

What to put on the quote
- Each tree by species, height and trunk diameter, and what it is near: roof, power line, fence, the neighbor's yard.
- Method: felled whole, lowered in sections by rope, or lifted out by crane, and the equipment that needs access.
- Stump: left at grade or ground below grade (how many inches), and whether grindings are hauled or left in the hole.
- Debris: brush chipped and hauled, logs removed or cut to firewood and left, and how the lawn is protected from the truck.
- Proof of liability and workers' comp insurance, and who handles any city permit for a protected tree.
Common mistakes
- Quoting a straight fell from the ground, then finding the tree leans over the garage and needs rigging and a second climber.
- Leaving the stump off the estimate, so the customer assumed "remove the tree" included it.
- Rutting the lawn with the chipper because ground mats were never priced, then repairing it for free.
- Not confirming which trees sit on the property line before cutting a neighbor's limbs.
Deposit, balance and validity
A 20% deposit books the crew and equipment; the balance is due when the site is cleaned up. Storm and emergency work is billed at the higher hourly rate stated on this estimate, and rescheduling for wind or rain carries no charge. Estimate valid for 30 days.
Questions people ask
Does the whole tree have to come down?
Often not. Thinning the crown and removing deadwood can be enough; the estimate can show trimming and removal side by side.
How deep does stump grinding go?
Usually 6–12 in below grade, enough for topsoil and seed. Deeper grinding for a patio or footing is priced separately.
Can you leave the wood?
Yes. Logs cut to firewood length and stacked on site cost less than hauling everything away.
