Wallpaper Installation Estimate Template

Wallpaper estimates go wrong on two numbers: how many rolls the pattern repeat really needs, and how much damage hides under the old paper. Price hanging per roll, and keep stripping and skim coating on their own lines so the client sees why two bids differ.

What to put on the quote

  • Wall area per room, plus the roll size and pattern repeat used to count rolls and the spares allowed.
  • Who supplies the paper; if the client does, that you are not responsible for printing faults or batch shade differences.
  • Prep included (strip, patch, prime) and the point where damaged drywall becomes a separate repair.
  • Paste type, and whether seams on vinyl or grasscloth are double-cut.

Common mistakes

  • Counting rolls by area alone and running short on a large-repeat pattern.
  • Quoting before finding out the old paper was hung straight onto unprimed drywall.
  • Hanging client-bought rolls from two batch numbers and taking the blame for the shade change.

Deposit, balance and validity

A 30% deposit to book the dates, or the full cost of the paper if you are supplying it; balance on completion. Unopened rolls returned to the supplier may carry a restocking fee. Estimate valid for 30 days.

Questions people ask

How many extra rolls should I buy?

Usually one extra for every five to eight, more for large repeats. Keep one from the same batch for later repairs.

Can new paper go over the old?

Only if the old layer is sound and well bonded. Most installers strip it, and the estimate says which method is used.

Why does grasscloth cost more to hang?

It has no pattern to match, but it shows every seam and marks easily, so it is hung slowly and with extra care.
